Two-time IBJJF No-Gi World Champion, Everton Teixeira is ready to end the season with a sense of mission accomplished. Last weekend, Bruno Frazatto’s black-belt, from Atos, won gold at the No Gi Worlds in Las Vegas, competing among adult roosterweight athletes.

The outcome was the best possible, top of the podium after demonstrating a high quality Jiu-Jitsu, from the quarterfinals to the last fight. For Everton, in an interview with VF Comunica after the competition, the positive campaign was a grateful reward for all the discipline in the preparation.

“My campaign at the No Gi Worlds was very special. It was the result of months of hard work, focus and dedication. What made the biggest difference was my mindset and desire to be a champion. I had already won last year and I knew it was a matter of repeating the process, because that’s what a champion does: he wins. In addition, having professor Bruno Frazatto in my corner was essential. His experience always brings confidence, and that made a big difference in important moments.”.

In the fight against Lucas Castro, in the final, Everton had to identify the best moment to act

The roosterweight final fight against Lucas Castro, one of Gracie Barra’s standouts, put Everton’s patience to the test. In fact, this is one of the most essential characteristics of a champion: waiting for the right time to act, without despair.

“Regarding the final, it was a fight that required patience and strategy. When my opponent took my back, I remained calm, controlling every move to avoid scoring points and waiting for the right moment to act. In the end, I managed to reverse the position and seek the submission. It was a moment of great concentration, which showed how keeping your head in place can change the course of a fight.”.

Along with the only submission of the No Gi Worlds campaign, Everton chose another match, from the quarterfinals, to analyze better in the interview. To advance in the bracket, he had to beat Michael Jalen, a tough opponent from Alliance. The No Gi roosterweight world champion also made a point of praising Lucas Castro, a long-time opponent, runner-up in the tournament.

“Of the fights I had, the ones I enjoyed the most were the quarterfinals and the final. In the quarterfinals, I faced Michael Jalen, from Alliance, a young and very talented athlete. The fight was very lively, with attacks from both sides. I like this type of challenge, which takes me out of my comfort zone, and this fight was exactly like that. In the final, I faced Lucas Castro, an opponent I had been fighting since the juvenile. It’s incredible to see how much we’ve both evolved in the sport. Lucas is extremely technical and strategic, and he always pushes me to give my best. It was very special to share this moment with him.”.

With the goal of remaining among the best, the black-belt is already envisioning a super fight with Jiu-Jitsu idols

In a prominent position with his second world title, Everton Teixeira sees great possibilities in the future as a grappling athlete. Committed to the mission of continuing to evolve, he says he will be present at the biggest championships, in search of more challenges, fighting both Gi and No Gi. For a super fight, when the opportunity arises, he has his sights set on idols of the sport.

“In a super fight, it would be amazing to face someone like Caio Terra, Mikey Musumeci or Felipe Machado. They are athletes I admire a lot and it would be a great test. Being a two-time world champion is something very important to me. It is not only a confirmation of my work, but also a symbol of consistency and improvement. These titles open doors and increase the responsibility of representing Jiu-Jitsu well. More than that, they motivate me to inspire those who are starting out in the sport.”.
