Collecting important titles since last season, Cássio Silva is experiencing a golden phase in his master 1 career, showing that athletes over 30 can indeed dedicate themselves and achieve great results as an athlete. Dividing his time between different roles, father, competitor and head coach at the School of Champs, Cássio Silva has just won gold at the European Championship, the first IBJJF tournament with bigger relevance. The typical leader who inspires by example.
First champion of the CFJJB Grand Prix, the Jiu-Jitsu confederation in France, Paris gave Cássio the welcome of a true home. “I’m very happy seeing the results of my work as an athlete, even though I’m an academy leader, entrepreneur and father at the same time. Fighting in Paris is very special for me, it was here that I built most of everything I have, this is certainly my home, I have the support of everyone and a very good energy”, he tells the VF Comunica team, with his heart full of affection.
At the top of the rankings, Cássio Silva was the favorite in his division
After an impeccable performance in 2023, with three fights and three submissions, Cássio Silva arrived at this year’s European Championship with a good position in the rankings. In a bracket that, at one point, disqualified competitors due to lack of combativeness, the School of Champs representative showed that technique and the will to win are mandatory ingredients for a good show. That’s how he won the final, champion on points in a tough fight against André Porto, from Frontline Academy.
Cássio Silva’s technical side is very sharp, as his recent results confirm. The action plan is to offer danger to the opponent all the time. “In the technical part I am complete and that helps a lot, I pass well, with pressure or speed. Playing guard, I’m very aggressive and a finisher, investing in several attacks on the arms and legs. All of this complicates my opponents’ strategy.”, says the black-belt, analyzing his game.
Happy and enjoying the feeling of duty accomplished, now the immediate action is to take care of your body. With the meniscus in his right knee injured, Cássio needs to adjust the machine to return with full strength for the AJP Tour Grand Slams in Rome and Abu Dhabi, scheduled for April and May. However, when asked about his desire to do a superfight, Cássio said he is ready. “I haven’t had the opportunity yet, so there’s nothing planned, but I’m looking forward to it and ready to face anyone in the roosterweight division.”, he concludes.
