Ancelmo Sobrinho, a second-degree black-belt, has been playing an important leadership role at Gracie Barra, which is responsible for the Park City gym in Utah. With over 20 years of Jiu-Jitsu in his path, Ancelmo divides his routine between competition training and Gentle Art classes. One of the focuses of Ancelmo’s methodology is self-defense, an aspect of the sport that is sometimes forgotten due to the demands of competition.

For Ancelmo, new challenges will always be a priority

When asked about his ambitions in the competition, Ancelmo said that the goal is to stay active, always with the purpose of accepting new challenges in search of improvement.

“My biggest goal for this season in Jiu-Jitsu is to improve my technical skills, strengthen my competitive mindset and constantly seek personal growth on and off the mat. I am focused on reaching my full potential and representing my team with pride and determination in all competitions. Among these challenges, the World Master, in Las Vegas, is my main goal.”.

With eight years of black-belt experience, Ancelmo Sobrinho defines his game as “a Jiu-Jitsu of opportunities, always moving forward with the goal of submission.”. Determined to participate in the IBJJF World Master, scheduled for the end of August in Vegas, he knows that he will face the best competitors over 30 in the bracket.

“My routine has been intense and full of energy. I am focused on improving my finishing skills, improving my endurance and keeping my mind sharp to face any challenge on the mat. Each training session is an opportunity to overcome and learn. The master division is extremely solid, many world champions today fight in the master division, at a very high level. There is never an easy fight.”.
