Tamiris Silva

Tamiris Silva needed two years to repeat at black belt what she had done at brown. In 2022 she won Worlds at brown belt and got her black belt soon after. In 2024 she won the heavyweight division at Worlds at her new rank, after beating the previous year’s champion, Melissa Cueto, in the semifinal.

Born in Mogi das Cruzes, in the Brazilian state of São Paulo, on July 19, 1996, she started martial arts at 12 with judo and went on to karate and kickboxing. Jiu-Jitsu came at 18, while she was in nursing school, in a class Saulo Barbosa opened at the gym where she lifted weights.

She won early and quit a part-time job to focus on her studies and on competing. In 2019 she was recruited by Dream Art, along with training partner Larissa Martins and with her coach’s approval, and began working with Isaque Bahiense and Gabriel Figueiró. It was Saulo Barbosa who gave her a black belt, in June 2022.

At black belt the podiums came fast: in 2023 she took bronze at Worlds and won the Brazilian Nationals. Her 2024 world title run included a clock choke on Laura Barker in the quarterfinals, the win over Cueto on advantages after a 2-2 score, and a 2-0 win over Amanda Magda in the final.

After the title, Tamiris took silver at the Brazilian Nationals and bronze at Worlds in 2025 and repeated both results in 2026. In both seasons she lost the Brazilian Nationals final to Yara Soares, now her teammate at DreamArt. In July 2026 she won super-heavyweight at the São Paulo Open.
