Who is Bernardo Faria
Bernardo Faria was born in Juiz de Fora, in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, on January 26, 1987. He started training at 14, in 2001, at Ricardo Marques’ academy, after a friend invited him. He got his black belt in 2009 and, with his coach’s support, moved to São Paulo to join Fabio Gurgel’s Alliance team.
He won the IBJJF World Championship at heavyweight in 2010 and at super-heavyweight in 2013 and 2015, the year he also took the open class. He also won three straight European titles, from 2010 to 2012, and three Pan titles.
After he stopped competing, he became known for the technique videos he publishes online. He was inducted into the IBJJF Hall of Fame in 2022.
