Who is Alexander Sak
Alexander Sak was born in March 1992 in Zaozerny, Siberia, where he lived until 2009. He did judo and soccer as a kid and, at 17, started sambo, a sport in which he earned the Master of Sport title and took bronze at the 2012 Russian junior championship.
He found Jiu-Jitsu in late 2013, as a complement to combat sambo. He trained with team Strela, first in Siberia and, from 2016, in Moscow, with Dmitry Selivakhin, who promoted him up to brown belt. At purple belt he took bronze at the 2018 Worlds and at No-Gi Worlds in 2017 and 2018. At brown belt he took silver at the 2020 Europeans.
He got his black belt from Rodrigo Cabral on April 14, 2020. That same year he moved to Germany, the country he now represents, and from 2022 to 2024 he was a contracted athlete of the German Army. In 2022 he won the IBJJF Europeans in Master 1.
Starting in 2025 he stepped up his schedule in the adult division. He won his weight class and the open class at the Milan and Venice Opens and won the AJP World Pro in the 120 kg (265 lb) division. In 2026, competing for Abdullaev Team, he took double gold in Milan, Geneva, Turin and at the Asian Championship, where, according to the IBJJF, he submitted all six opponents with the same choke, the paper cutter. At Worlds he lost in the quarterfinals to Gutemberg Pereira. He also won the Master 1 world title.
Before The Crown, he is registered for the Rome Open and the No-Gi Europeans in late October. In Long Beach on November 8, he competes at ultra-heavyweight.
