Who is Marcus Buchecha
Marcus Almeida was born in São Vicente, on the coast of São Paulo state, on January 8, 1990. He came to Jiu-Jitsu at 14, after his sister and his father, Cleiton, who started out by going with his daughter to class and ended up bringing his son along. Coached by Rodrigo Cavaca, he got his black belt in 2010, on the podium at the Worlds.
Two years later he won both his weight class and the open class at the IBJJF World Championship for the first time, something he repeated in 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017 and 2019. With the ultra-heavyweight title in 2018 he reached 13 black belt golds. That year he gave up the open class final so his injured friend Leandro Lo could take the title.
He was inducted into the IBJJF Hall of Fame in 2014 and, after 2019, turned his focus to MMA.
