Tayane Porfírio accepts three-month suspension and loses results from the 2026 Worlds
USADA test found a THC metabolite; the agency said the use was out of competition and unrelated to performance

Tayane Porfírio accepted a three-month suspension for an anti-doping rule violation, USADA announced on September 2, 2026. The 31-year-old black belt tested positive for a metabolite of THC, the main psychoactive compound in marijuana, in an in-competition test at the IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu Championship on May 31, 2026.
According to the U.S. agency, the substance is only tested for and banned in competition. THC falls under a special category of the World Anti-Doping Code that allows a reduced three-month sanction when the athlete shows the use happened out of competition and was unrelated to sport performance. USADA said Porfírio qualified for it.
The suspension started counting on July 8, 2026, the date of her provisional suspension. Her results from May 31, the day the sample was collected, were disqualified, with forfeiture of medals, points and prizes.
It is Porfírio’s second violation in ten years. According to the agency, the sanction was not increased because the THC use happened out of competition and was unrelated to performance. The first was announced in 2019, after a test at the 2018 Worlds, and led to a four-year suspension.
USADA was contracted by the IBJJF to run testing at the tournament. The details are in the statement published by the agency.
