Atos closed out the black belt open class at the Orange County Fall Open, held Saturday (Oct. 24) in Costa Mesa, California. Adrian Roberto and João Vitor Venancio both reached the final and shared the top of the podium, with the gold going to Adrian, who had already won ultra-heavyweight earlier in the day.

The IBJJF tournament was a final tune-up for several athletes heading to The Crown on November 8 at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach. Andy Murasaki won medium-heavyweight with two submissions, and Fellipe Andrew took heavyweight on his 32nd birthday.

Adrian Roberto leaves with double gold

At ultra-heavyweight, Adrian Roberto beat Thierry Felipe of Marcio André in the final. Thierry, who got his black belt in September and won the open class at the Sacramento Fall Open in his black belt debut, had beaten DreamArt’s Pietro Emanuel to reach the final and took silver.

In the afternoon, Adrian came back for the open class and got through three opponents on his way to the final: Thiago Cesar de Andrade Silva, super-heavyweight champion Guilherme Cypriano and, in the semifinal, Luiz Victor Maxnuk, the medium-heavyweight runner-up. On the other side of the bracket, João Vitor Venancio beat Matheus Souza Pereira in the semifinal. Andy Murasaki was registered for the open class but did not compete in it.
