Leonardo Pires Nogueira was suspended for two years for an anti-doping rule violation. The black belt, then 29, tested positive for clomiphene in an in-competition test at the IBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu Championship on June 5, 2016, in Long Beach, California.

The substance

Clomiphene is a hormone and metabolic modulator, banned at all times under the World Anti-Doping Code and the protocol of USADA, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, applied to the 2016 Worlds.

The sanction

The sanction was announced on March 27, 2017. The two-year suspension counted from June 5, 2016, the day the sample was collected. His results since June 1, 2016, the day Worlds began, were disqualified, with forfeiture of medals, points and prizes. The IBJJF agreed to impose the sanction.

USADA was contracted by the IBJJF to run testing at the tournament. The details are in the statement published by the agency.
