Who is Lucas Lepri
Lucas Lepri was born in Uberlândia, in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais, on September 19, 1985. He played futsal and did judo, swimming and capoeira before discovering Jiu-Jitsu in 2000, through a TV show about the training routine of Fernando “Margarida” Pontes. Weeks later he joined the academy of Elan Santiago, the coach who stayed with him through a stint on Fernando Tererê’s team and, from 2005, at Alliance.
He got his black belt in late 2006 and won the world title in his very first year at the rank, in 2007. After losing two finals, in 2008 and 2012, he got back to the top in 2014 and stayed there: six straight lightweight titles through 2019. In no-gi, he won the No-Gi Worlds from 2009 to 2011.
He moved to the United States to teach for Alliance and was inducted into the IBJJF Hall of Fame in 2022.
