Who is Luanna Alzuguir
Luanna Alzuguir was born in São Paulo on August 16, 1985, and first tried Jiu-Jitsu at age 9 with coach Marcelo Mathias. She competed for the first time that same year. As an orange belt, looking for a more competitive room, she moved to the training center run by Roberto Godoi and Jorge “Macaco” Patino, where she got her blue belt.
When the two partners split, she was left without training partners and gave up the sport to study journalism. College life brought her back: at a tournament between universities she met Marco Barbosa, who invited her to train and took her to black belt.
She won the IBJJF World Championship from 2009 to 2013, with the open class title in 2010. In 2013 she finished the season ranked No. 1 by the IBJJF. She was inducted into the Hall of Fame the following year.
