Jaine “Bah” Fragoso

Jaine Fragoso is a black belt under Davi Ramos, the 2023 IBJJF No-Gi Pan champion and a bronze medalist at the 2024 World Championships, in the gi and in no-gi. In 2026 she won the 125-pound belt at Main Character, won the Jiu-Jitsu CON No-Gi and got the call from UFC BJJ. Her debut is set for October 29, at UFC BJJ 13, against Ffion Davies.

Born in February 1998 in Caxias do Sul, in the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul, she played several sports at school and, from age 10, learned Muay Thai and basic MMA from her older brother. She started Jiu-Jitsu at 17, at JA Jiu-Jitsu, the gym of Mateus Bernardi, in her hometown. She began competing after one month of training and lost every match in her first six months, until she won the first tournament she entered as an adult.

Her nickname, “Bah,” is a common expression in Rio Grande do Sul that she kept saying in training, and it was given to her by teammates at Atos. After passing through a few teams, Fragoso settled at the Atos affiliate in Rio de Janeiro under Davi Ramos, an ADCC champion, who gave her the black belt on January 17, 2023. At the colored belts, she had been Brazilian national champion at blue belt, in 2019, and, at brown belt in 2022, champion of the Brazilian No-Gi Nationals and the South American Championship.

“I have always been very hard on myself in every area of my life. So when I was promoted to black belt I thought: ‘Am I really ready?’ But I decided I did not care. If I was not, I would get ready along the way!” she said, in Portuguese, in an interview with VF Comunica in December 2024. In her first year at the new belt, she won the South Brazilian Championship in the gi and in no-gi, the Rio Open in her weight class and the open class, and the ADCC Sao Paulo Open, and took bronze at the Brazilian Nationals. Her first major title came at the No-Gi Pans: she submitted Vitoria Vieira with a straight ankle lock in the semifinal and beat Joanna Trindade 7-0 in the final.

In 2024 she moved to the United States and started training with Caio Terra. At Worlds, she got past Janaina Lebre in the quarterfinals and lost to Brianna Ste-Marie in the semifinal, which earned her bronze at lightweight. She won the same medal at No-Gi Worlds and was invited to The Crown, the IBJJF’s invitation-only event, where she lost to Ste-Marie again in the first match of the Grand Prix. In 2025 she took bronze at Pans, after losing to Luiza Monteiro in the semifinal, and silver at the Jiu-Jitsu CON No-Gi.

Her 2026 season had three matches and three straight ankle locks at the Albuquerque Open, with gold at middleweight and in the open class, and the Main Character belt, in Austin, with a decision win over Natasha Druggan. In May she announced Bruno Bastos as her manager, and in September she won the Jiu-Jitsu CON No-Gi with one more straight ankle lock, on Suellen Souza. In that 2024 interview, Fragoso had already made a promise: “You are going to see me at one of these events, UFC, ONE, CJI, ADXC, etc. You can be sure of it.”

The closed guard is her favorite position, and 40 of her 59 recorded wins came by submission, 12 of them with the straight ankle lock. The IBJJF website now lists her as a 10th Planet athlete, and she teaches at Morgan Hill Jiu Jitsu, in California, alongside her partner, Joao Nicolite, who also competes in UFC BJJ.
