Carlos “Bebeto” Oliveira

Carlos “Bebeto” Oliveira reached three Worlds finals at roosterweight in four years and won one of them. In 2024, representing GF Team, he came up from the bottom in the final against Zayed Alkatheeri, took the back and finished. In the other two, in 2022 and 2025, he took silver.

He was already one of the best in the world at brown belt. In 2018 he won Europeans, the Brazilian Nationals and the World Pro and lost the Worlds final to Cícero Paiva, decided by a penalty in the closing moments. A few weeks later he was competing as a black belt.

His first big black belt titles came elsewhere. In 2019 he won the AJP Grand Slam in Abu Dhabi, under 56 kg (123 lb), and in 2021 he became No-Gi world champion at light-featherweight, beating Paulo Miyao by split decision in the final. In the gi, 2022 brought two meetings with Thalison Soares: Bebeto won the Pans final on advantages and lost the Worlds final 2-0.

The world title came two years later. In 2024 he got past Everton Célio by referee decision, beat Rodnei Barbosa 4-2 and closed out his run with the submission of Alkatheeri. That same year he won the World Master in the Master 1 division, a title he repeated in 2025.

In 2025 he made the Worlds final again after submitting Yuri Silva with an armbar and beating Rodnei Barbosa 2-0, but lost to Jalen Fonacier 12-8. They met again in February 2026 at UFC BJJ, and Fonacier won with a heel hook 19 seconds in.

In 2026 Bebeto took silver at Pans, submitted by Marcos Gomes in the final, and lost in the Worlds quarterfinals to Rodnei Barbosa by referee decision. He represents GF Team California, and the IBJJF describes him as a strong guard player and a dangerous submission hunter.
