After Jon Jones’ latest title defense, Alex Pereira, who was a primary target for the American star, seems to have shifted focus. The reigning light heavyweight champion appears to have put plans for an immediate move to the heavyweight division on hold, opting instead to solidify his position in his current weight class. That hasn’t stopped him, however, from weighing in on the future of the heavyweight division.

Speaking with TNT Sports during UFC 310, just before the main event between Alexandre Pantoja and Kai Asakura, Pereira was asked who he sees as the favorite in a potential unification bout between Jon Jones and interim champion Tom Aspinall.

“I think Jon Jones has a lot of experience on his side. People say, ‘Aspinall this, Aspinall that,’ but in the end, it’s all about experience. Jon Jones is a veteran, he’s been through a lot, so I think he wins,” the Brazilian remarked.

Pereira also acknowledged Aspinall’s impressive rise in the division, noting the Englishman’s enormous potential. However, he pointed out that Aspinall may need more time to be ready for a champion as complete as Jon Jones.
