Erich Munis

Erich Munis collects finals against familiar faces. He has fought for a world title against his own brother, against a teammate and against names like Nicholas Meregali, Kaynan Duarte and Victor Hugo. In 2026 he left Long Beach with the open class title, the seventh world title of his career, and with silver at super-heavyweight, in yet another in-house final.

He has seven world titles as a black belt. Four at super-heavyweight, in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2025, and three in the open class, in 2024, 2025 and 2026. The first two open class titles came with no final match, because his opponents, Jansen Gomes and Gutemberg Pereira, were injured. The 2026 one was won on the mat: three submissions and a 6-4 win over Marcus “Scooby” Ribeiro in the final.

Erich Munis dos Santos was born in Panorama, a small town in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, on December 19, 1997. He started Jiu-Jitsu in 2013, at the Raça team, alongside his brother Anderson. When he finished high school he followed his brothers to Maringá on a scholarship at Clube Feijão, run by Rodrigo Feijão.

Family has also stood between him and a title. In the super-heavyweight final of the 2024 Worlds, Anderson Munis submitted Erich with a kneebar. The brothers got their black belts on the same day, September 28, 2020, from Isaque Bahiense and Gabriel Figueiró at Dream Art. A year earlier, at purple belt, Erich had won double gold at Europeans, Pans, the Brazilian Nationals and Worlds.

He joined Dream Art as a purple belt, left for Fratres in April 2023 and has competed for Soldiers since 2025, winning double gold at that year’s Brazilian Nationals and Worlds. That is where he trains with Vinicius Liberati, his opponent in the 2026 super-heavyweight finals: Liberati took gold at the Brazilian Nationals and at Worlds, both times on advantages.

At The Crown, Erich has won all three editions at ultra-heavyweight: he beat Roosevelt Sousa in 2023, Marcus Ribeiro in 2024 and Gustavo Batista in 2025, the last one 6-0. As of October 7 he was not among the athletes the IBJJF had confirmed for the 2026 edition, set for November 8.
