Anderson Munis

In the super-heavyweight final at the 2024 Worlds, Anderson Munis faced his younger brother, Erich, then his teammate at Fratres, and won with a kneebar. It was his first black belt world title and, according to FloGrappling, only the second time Erich had been submitted at black belt.

Anderson was born in Panorama, in the interior of São Paulo state, Brazil, on July 25, 1995. He is the middle brother, between Alex, the oldest, and Erich, the youngest. Their father pushed his sons into sports, and when Jiu-Jitsu arrived in town, in 2013, Anderson signed up along with Erich.

While still blue belts, he and Alex moved to Maringá, in the state of Paraná, to train under Rodrigo Feijão. Erich followed a year later. The brothers later asked for support on social media and were contacted by Dream Art. That is where Anderson got his black belt, from Isaque Bahiense and Gabriel Figueiró, on September 28, 2020, at the same ceremony as Erich.

Before that, in 2019, he had been a purple belt world champion at super-heavyweight and the open class runner-up, behind Erich himself. His game is built on the lasso guard and the sweep known as the crowbar. In 2023 the brothers left Dream Art for Fratres, and that is where Anderson had the best season of his career: in 2024 he won Pans, in a final closed out with Erich, and then Worlds.

The 2025 Worlds were shorter. At ultra-heavyweight he lost his first match to Lucas Montalvão on advantages. In the open class he submitted Guilherme Cypriano with a toe hold and stopped in the quarterfinals against Gutemberg Pereira.

In 2026, now registered under Hoko Jiu-Jitsu, he won ultra-heavyweight at the Curitiba BJJ Pro, an IBJJF event, and competed at ACBJJ’s Eurasia Super Cup, in the gi and in no-gi, where he stopped in the gi semifinal against Helder Rodrigues.
