Jansen Gomes

When Jansen Gomes got his black belt on the podium of the 2021 Worlds, the person tying the knot was his father. The scene sums up the path of the Rio native known as Nenego, raised in the Cantagalo community, who learned the sport from his family and reached his third world title in 2026.

Jansen Gomes Ramos was born in Rio de Janeiro on October 20, 2001, and grew up in the Cantagalo community, in the city’s South Zone. He started Jiu-Jitsu as a small child, influenced by his brother Jonata Gomes and his father, black belt Antônio Carlos, known as “Bode,” inside the social project run by Checkmat’s Ricardo “Rico” Vieira.

The promotion came in December 2021, when Jansen was 20. He had just won Worlds at brown belt, in a season that also brought double gold at Pans and at No-Gi Worlds. Before that he was a juvenile world champion in 2017 and a purple belt world champion in 2019.

As a black belt he has three world titles, in two weight classes. The first came at middleweight in 2023, when he dropped a division, beat Tye Ruotolo 4-0 in the semifinal and beat Tainan Dalpra in the final on advantages, after a 0-0 score. It is one of Tainan’s three losses as a black belt. The other two titles came at medium-heavyweight, in 2025 and 2026.

In between, in 2024, Jansen reached two finals at the same Worlds: he lost the medium-heavyweight one and did not contest the open class final, against Erich Munis, because of the injury from the first. His opponent in that weight class final was Gustavo Batista, the matchup that repeats most in his career. Batista came out ahead in the round of 16 at the 2022 Worlds, in the 2023 Pans final and in the 2024 Worlds final, the last one by ankle lock. Jansen won at BJJ Stars 11 in September 2023, in the 2025 Worlds final, on advantages, and at UFC BJJ 3 in October 2025, by decision.

After that he went a year without competing in IBJJF tournaments and came straight back for the 2026 Worlds. In Long Beach he had five matches, with two submissions on day one, a 6-0 win over Gabriel Galvão in the semifinal and a lapel choke on Enderson Dias in the final. With the title in hand, he promised a more active season in 2027.
