Diego “Pato” Oliveira has another international match this weekend. This time, he will share the card with some of the biggest names from the UFC.
The Brazilian faces Edu Salazar of Ecuador this Sunday, October 4, at HYPE Ecuador. The event takes place at the Coliseo General Rumiñahui in Quito.
The match will be at 75 kg (165 lb) under submission-only rules. There are no points and no judges. The only way to win is to make the other guy tap.
But it is the rest of the card that makes Pato’s match even more interesting.
José Aldo and Colby Covington will be on the same card
The main event is a rematch between two names MMA fans know well. José Aldo faces Marlon “Chito” Vera, almost six years after they met in the UFC.
In their first fight, at UFC Vegas 17 in December 2020, Aldo won by unanimous decision. This time there will be no striking.
Aldo and Chito will meet in a 10-minute grappling match that can only end by submission. Another UFC star will also be on the card.
Former interim welterweight champion Colby Covington faces Ecuador’s Mayton Perea in the co-main event, also under submission-only rules.
Among names known around the world for MMA, Brazilian jiu-jitsu will have one of its top athletes of today.
While most eyes will be on the two UFC stars at the top of the card, one of the best jiu-jitsu competitors from Brazil will get the chance to show high-level grappling to a new audience.
Diego Pato vs. Edu Salazar happens this Sunday, October 4, in Quito, Ecuador.
And with a win only by submission, nobody can sit on a lead.
Somebody has to tap.
