Who is Sabrina Gondim

Sabrina Rogéria Ataide Beserra Gondim was born on April 8, 1999, in João Pessoa, in the Brazilian state of Paraíba. At 7, after trying gymnastics, she was enrolled in judo by her grandmother and stayed in the sport for ten years. At 15 she started training Jiu-Jitsu under Marcello Victor and kept up both for two years. At 17 she entered her first tournament, the Brazilian Nationals, and left judo for Jiu-Jitsu.

She stayed with Marcello Victor until purple belt, when she moved to CheckMat’s headquarters in Paraíba, under Endres Barbosa and Tarcísio Jardim. In the colored belts she was a two-time South American champion at purple and, in 2022, Brazilian Nationals champion and Worlds bronze medalist at brown. Her two coaches gave her the black belt on September 2, 2022, and later that year she won the South American Championship at lightweight and took silver in the open class, losing the final to Gabi Pessanha.

In 2023, in her first Brazilian Nationals as a black belt, she reached the final and lost to Luiza Monteiro by referee decision. The run caught the attention of Daniel Affini and Damaris de Luca, who lead Fratres, a pro team in São Paulo, and they signed her that July. With the new team she became a two-time South American champion and, in 2024, took bronze at Europeans and silver at Pans, in a final the referees gave to Janaína Lebre.

Between 2024 and 2025 she tore knee ligaments and had two surgeries in a row, according to FloGrappling. She returned to competition in 2025 and, in November, made her Crown debut, now with Fight Sports in Miami, where she trains under Roberto “Cyborg” Abreu. Janaína Lebre submitted her with an Ezekiel choke in the quarterfinals.

In 2026 she took bronze at Pans, at lightweight, stopped in the semifinal by Sarah Galvão, 6-0. Weeks before Worlds she fought for the UFC BJJ title and was submitted by Cassia Moura with a rear-naked choke. In Long Beach she dropped to featherweight and won her first black belt world title: four wins without giving up a point, including victories over world champions Mia Funegra, in the quarterfinals, and Gabrielle McComb, in the final, both 3-0.

On October 4 she won the No-Gi Pans, also at featherweight, beating Cindy Ung in the final by one advantage. Two days later the IBJJF announced her in the lightweight bracket of The Crown, one division above the one in which she is world champion. On November 8 she enters the bracket for the second time.
