Alex Liscano

Alex Liscano Filho was born in February 2003 in Tramandaí, on the coast of Rio Grande do Sul, in southern Brazil, and grew up in São Leopoldo. At 9 he started judo at André Lisboa’s club, where he first learned ground fighting. He stopped after breaking his arm on a throw, tried kickboxing and came back to the mats in 2016, this time in jiu-jitsu, under Alex Tchaka and Michel Maia.

He won the Brazilian Nationals in 2017 as an orange belt and moved to Alliance, where he trained under Moacir Mendes Jr. and Mario Reis and won the 2019 juvenile Worlds at blue belt. He then joined CheckMat in Curitiba under Sebastian Lalli, who has been his coach ever since.

At purple belt he won the 2022 American Nationals and took bronze at the Brazilian Nationals in 2022 and 2023 and at the 2023 Worlds. At brown belt he won the American Nationals in 2023 and 2024, took silver at the No-Gi Pans both years and, in 2024, bronze at the Worlds, the Brazilian Nationals and the No-Gi Worlds. In 2025 he won the Pans and the Worlds at heavyweight, and Sebastian Lalli gave him his black belt in May, right after the world title.

His first podium as a black belt came at Jiu-Jitsu CON 2025, with silver at super-heavyweight after losing the final to Mateus Rodrigues by referee decision. In 2026 he won the Sacramento Open at heavyweight and the open class at the San Diego Open, took silver at the Los Angeles Open and bronze at Jiu-Jitsu CON. At the Pans, his first major gi tournament as a black belt, he lost in the semifinal to Rider Zuchi, whose results were later disqualified by USADA. At the Worlds he moved down to medium-heavyweight and lost in the round of 16.
