Diogo “Baby Shark” Reis

Diogo Pinheiro dos Reis, known as “Baby Shark,” was born on March 20, 2002, in Manaus. He came to jiu-jitsu at 10, influenced by his older brother, after trying soccer, and was guided in his first years by coach Alexandre Oliveira. In 2014 he began training with Melqui Galvão and has stayed alongside Mica Galvão and company ever since. He received his black belt in December 2020.

In his first year at black belt, 2021, he won the Abu Dhabi World Pro. The next year he reached the top of grappling: he won ADCC at under 66 kg, beating Fabricio Andrey and, in the final, Gabriel Sousa. In 2024 in Las Vegas he defended the title and became a two-time champion by submitting his rival Diego “Pato” in the final.

In the gi he has also collected major titles at light-featherweight: Brazilian National champion in 2022 and 2023, Pan champion in 2023 and European champion in 2025, plus three Worlds medals, two bronze and one silver.

In March 2025 he debuted in ONE Championship with a submission of Japan’s Shoya Ishiguro. In December he won the ONE flyweight submission grappling world title with a unanimous decision over Daiki Yonekura and closed the year as the promotion’s Grappler of the Year. In May 2026 he moved up to bantamweight and beat Yuki Takahashi by unanimous decision. “It’s always great fighting in ONE, and also I had a great performance and showed some skills that I was drilling in my gym,” he told ONE after the match.

In 2025 he also returned to gi competition after a year of no-gi only. “This year I decided to go back to competing in the gi, and I think I am in a good moment. I am gaining a lot of experience, because the gi is a different world,” he told VF Comunica before facing Meyram Maquiné at BJJ Stars 15, a match he lost on points.
