Ana Schmitt

In her third straight world final, Ana Schmitt finally reached the top step. In 2019, after beating Ariadne de Oliveira and Larissa Campos at featherweight, she faced Bianca Basílio for the title. The match ended level on the scoreboard and was decided by the referees in favour of the Santa Catarina native, who was representing Nova União.

She was born on January 6, 1990, in Blumenau and did rhythmic gymnastics from 6 to 12, when a spinal injury ended her time in the sport. She started Jiu-Jitsu at 14 with Guilherme Neves. She received her purple and brown belts from Juliano Wandalen and finished her development with Marcos Cunha, who promoted her to black belt on the podium of the 2014 CBJJE World Championship after four years at brown.

In 2014 she moved to Gracie Humaitá San Diego to train on Letícia Ribeiro’s women’s team. She took bronze at Pans and the Europeans in 2015 and, at the 2017 Worlds, closed out the featherweight final with teammate Emilie Thylin, officially taking silver. That same year she went back to Santa Catarina and Marcos Cunha’s team. In 2018 she was world runner-up again, behind Karen Antunes, and won the Pan Pacific in her division and the open class.

After her 2019 title she lost a rematch to Bianca Basílio at BJJ Stars by footlock. In 2024 she lost to Júlia Alves at ADXC 3 and stepped in for Bianca on short notice to face Anna Rodrigues for the BJJ Stars 12 featherweight title, losing on points.
