Gabrielle McComb

The 2021 featherweight world final was settled between teammates. Gabrielle McComb and Bianca Basílio both wore Atos colours in Anaheim, and the fighter from Manaus won on points in a match the IBJJF described as close. On the way to the final she had submitted Michele Oliveira and Gabriela Fechter.

She was born on October 3, 1997, in Manaus and started at 8 in the Acadepol social project with coach Alberto Valle and at the academy of her sister, Andrea McComb, who gave her a purple belt. She won Worlds as a juvenile in 2013, at blue belt in 2014, in her division and the open class, and at purple in 2016, again with double gold. That year she moved to the United States for good, to Gracie Humaitá South Bay, where Letícia Ribeiro and Fabrício Camões gave her a black belt in June 2018, together with her partner, Paulo Gabriel.

At black belt she won the 2018 No-Gi Pans and the gi Pans in 2019 and 2020, and took bronze at the 2019 Worlds. In 2021, by then with Atos, she won Worlds and took silver at Pans and at the No-Gi Worlds, where she also won open class bronze after submitting Ffion Davies with a triangle armlock. André Galvão later told the IBJJF: “Gabi is super talented. Since she moved to Atos her BJJ took off.”

In 2022 she moved up to lightweight and lost at Worlds to Janaina Maia Lebre by straight ankle lock. At the 2023 No-Gi Worlds in Las Vegas she won middleweight and took silver in the open class, finished by Ffion Davies with a rear naked choke after Ffion escaped her triangle. In 2025 she lost in the gi Worlds quarterfinals to Cassia Moura. In 2026, now with Logos JJ, she beat Gabriela Pereira and Margot Ciccarelli and reached the featherweight final again, losing 3-0 to Sabrina Gondim.

Alongside all that she has built an unbeaten MMA record. She beat Esmira Mammadova with a rear naked choke and Cara Greenwell with an armbar at LFA in 2025, and stopped Marcela Aparicio and Odeth Realyvásquez in the first round at UWC Mexico in 2026. She trains MMA with Alexa Grasso’s team.
