Cassio Felipe Sousa Costa, identified by the IBJJF as Felipe Costa, accepted a one-year suspension for an anti-doping rule violation, USADA announced on March 20, 2025. The 25-year-old athlete tested positive for clomiphene in an in-competition test at the IBJJF No-Gi World Championship on December 14, 2024.

Clomiphene is a hormone and metabolic modulator, banned at all times under the World Anti-Doping Code and the USADA protocol applied to the tournament.

After reviewing the case, USADA concluded the result was caused by a medication prescribed for therapeutic purposes under a physician’s care. According to the agency, he did not meet the criteria for a therapeutic use exemption, which the code requires before a banned substance is used.

The suspension started counting on December 30, 2024, the date of his provisional suspension. His results since December 14, 2024, the day the sample was collected, were disqualified, with forfeiture of medals, points and prizes.

USADA was contracted by the IBJJF to run testing at the tournament. The details are in the statement published by the agency.
