Ademir Barreto

Ademir Barreto de Araújo was born on October 30, 2000, in Macapá, in the northern Brazilian state of Amapá. He did judo from age 5 and switched to Jiu-Jitsu around 11, after watching a class at a local gym. His first coach was John Azevedo, at a GFTeam affiliate; he later joined Orlando Júnior’s group.

At purple belt he was invited by Júlio César Pereira to train at GFTeam headquarters in Méier, Rio de Janeiro, and began splitting his time between Macapá and Rio. At brown belt, in 2021, he won the AJP World Pro and the IBJJF No-Gi South Americans. He got his black belt from Orlando Júnior on July 27, 2022, and that same year he won the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam.

His best result came in 2024. After bronze at Europeans, he reached the Worlds final with three submissions in four wins, including a toe hold on Alex Sodré in the semifinal, and took silver after being submitted by Meyram Maquiné. At the end of the year he made his Crown debut: he beat Eduardo Granzotto with a kneebar, lost the semifinal to João Mendes 2-0 and finished with bronze.

In 2025 he beat João Mendes in the final of the Houston Open, lost to Meyram Maquiné in the Worlds quarterfinals, 6-4, and lost to Kennedy Maciel at UFC BJJ 2 by referee decision. At The Crown he lost his first match to Eduardo Granzotto by one advantage.

His 2026 season began with six golds at IBJJF Opens in the United States, two of them in the open class. At Pans he lost in the quarterfinals to Kennedy Maciel. At Worlds he beat Jihwan Park and missed the quarterfinals: his round-of-16 match against Sebastian Serpa ended in a disqualification. In September he won the Jiu-Jitsu CON No-Gi at lightweight, with three submissions in four matches.

He returns to The Crown on November 8, for his third straight appearance.
