UFC Edmonton tonight: start time, card, Malott’s jiu-jitsu
The Canadian black belt has six submission wins; Joaquin Buckley has never won by submission, and Jhonata Diniz is the lone Brazilian on the card

UFC Edmonton takes place tonight, Saturday, October 17, at Rogers Place in Canada, with Joaquin Buckley facing Mike Malott in a five-round welterweight main event. The prelims start at 5 p.m. ET (2 p.m. PT) and the main card at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. PT), streaming live on Paramount+. The only Brazilian on the card is heavyweight Jhonata Diniz, who meets Canadian Tanner Boser.
All 26 fighters made weight on Friday, so all 13 bouts are on.
Malott’s jiu-jitsu vs. Buckley’s power
Malott, ranked No. 13, fights at home riding a four-fight win streak. The latest was the biggest: in April, in Winnipeg, he beat Gilbert Burns by third-round TKO. Burns then walked away from MMA and went back to jiu-jitsu, where he was submitted by Gabriel Almeida at UFC BJJ 12.
The key detail tonight may be on the mat. Malott is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt with a 14-2-1 record: six wins by submission, six by knockout and two by decision.
Buckley, ranked No. 10, is the opposite. Of his 21 career wins, 15 came by knockout and none by submission. He has lost his last two fights by unanimous decision, to Kamaru Usman and Sean Brady, and the UFC’s own preview notes he was out-wrestled in both. The trash talk between the two heated up weigh-in week.
Blanchfield vs. Jasudavicius in the co-main event
The co-main event carries big stakes at women’s flyweight: No. 4 Erin Blanchfield faces Canada’s No. 6 Jasmine Jasudavicius in a fight that could decide Natalia Silva’s next challenger, as VF Comunica reported.
Both can win on the ground. The last time the UFC came to Edmonton, in November 2024, Jasudavicius submitted Brazil’s Ariane da Silva with a third-round D’Arce choke and earned a Performance of the Night bonus. Blanchfield is 8-1 in the UFC.
Jhonata Diniz vs. Tanner Boser
Diniz closes out the prelims. The 35-year-old from Curitiba, who trains at Santa Fe Team, is 9-2 with seven knockouts and returns after a year away: his last fight was in October 2025, a second-round TKO loss to Mario Pinto.
Boser, an Alberta veteran, is basically fighting at home and wants to bounce back from his April knockout loss to Gokhan Saricam in Winnipeg. This week, Diniz made headlines outside the Octagon when he pushed back on Sean Strickland and Paulo Costa over UFC pay.
Also on the prelims: judoka Javad Mahjoub, who competed for the IOC Refugee Olympic Team in 2020 and debuts unbeaten at 5-0, and Mackenzie Stiller, who has five submissions among her six career wins.
