Tyrone Gonsalves has a vast career in Jiu-Jitsu and grappling and boasts a winning record in both disciplines. The black belt is one of the great teachers of Six Blades Jiu-Jitsu and leads a consolidated work in French Guiana.
Currently, Tyrone is more focused on grappling and will be seeking a place at ADCC 2924. He’ll have to triumph in the qualifier to stamp his passport to Las Vegas. However, Tyrone hasn’t let go of Jiu-Jitsu and remains dangerous in the gi. Tyrone has a strong takedown game and his fights are sure to be exciting.
Tyrone evaluates his Jiu-Jitsu season
Speaking to VF Comunica, Tyrone took stock of his performance this season.
“I had a very active season. I fought in the European, Pan, Brazilian and North America Masters, where I medaled in all of them and even made the final of the absolute in the Brazilian. Alson, I competed in several IBJJF Opens after that. I also competed a lot in nogi,” recalled the black belt.
In recent weeks, Tyrone shone at the Natal stage of the ADCC Open Brasil and won double gold after an overwhelming performance. However, it’s not just in grappling that the Brazilian based in French Guiana is sharp. Tyrone Gonsalves said that his Jiu-Jitsu has become more versatile.
“My Jiu-Jitsu is very well-rounded because I’ve improved my view of the game and my strategies. That’s why I performed well in the main events,” said the teacher.
Golden couple
Tyrone Gonsalves and Aurelie Le Vern are a tough couple. The Frenchwoman had a great debut year in the elite of Jiu-Jitsu and won the weight and absolute championships at the Brazilian No-Gi. He evaluated Aurelie’s first steps at black belt and pointed out that she still has a lot to show.
“She’s constantly evolving. Aurelie will complete one year as a black belt at the European Championships in January. She’s evolved a lot in her no-gi game and the result of that was the double gold she got at the Brasileiro Nogi,” assured Tyrone.
Balancing the roles of athlete and teacher is an arduous task, but Tyrone remains convinced of his goals. The black belt explained how he manages to maintain a high level in both areas without letting his performance drop.
“There’s no secret, there’s that phrase that says ‘work with what you love and you won’t feel like working’. You also need a lot of discipline and I really know what I want with my purpose,” Tyrone reiterated.
The Six Blades representative shared his next commitment and set his sights on the next edition of the ADCC.
The focus is 100% on the ADCC qualifier now. We’re going all out for Las Vegas in 2024.
