Thalison Soares completed the difficult task of defeating local idol Zayed Alkatheeri in the first edition of ADXC last Friday in Abu Dhabi. The Art of Jiu-Jitsu star defeated the Emirati by unanimous decision in the main card and added another significant achievement to his career.

Thalison and Zayed fought a studied match and both failed to get dominant positions. The fight lasted three rounds of three minutes. As the clock ticked down, Thalison had more initiative and was superior in the view of the side referees.

Thalison spoke to the VF Comunica team shortly after his victory and analyzed his performance at ADXC.

“The fight didn’t turn out quite as I expected because Zayed stopped me more than I expected. As the rounds were very short, it was difficult to work and progress my game, but I can only improve now. I’m going to use what I took from this fight to improve. With this new format, I have to improve the timing of the positions, especially against guys like him, who control a lot. So I only have to improve from now on,” explained the manauara.

Thalison wants a showdown at ADXC 2

The AOJ black belt commented on the experience of fighting in the cage and listed the main differences compared to other championships.

“It’s a very different feeling, because you’re in a space and you know you won’t be able to get out. There’s also the issue of pressure, the lights are strong too. But I liked the feeling of having fought there, it makes the fight more exciting”, said Thalison Soares.

Thalison is excited to be part of the next edition of ADXC. He challenged a black belt from the Melqui Galvão School and guaranteed that he wants to face the best in the world.

“I consider myself the best in this category, I’ve just beaten the current World Pro champion, so I want to prove that I’m the best in the division. I’d like to face Welison Fernandes because he’s the leader of the AJP -56kg ranking. So I want to start at the top, with the guys who are at the top. I want to face him in the next edition of ADXC,” said Thalison.
