Roney Edler, a black-belt who leads Sertão BJJ, headquartered in the US, will once again strengthen ties with the team’s roots in the Northeast of Brazil by promoting the second edition of the team’s camp on the paradisiacal beaches of Jericoacoara, in Ceará. The event, scheduled for June, promises to repeat the success of the first one, last year, with the participation of North American students from the academy who lived a rich experience – Jiu-Jitsu in Brazil combined with the culture of the Northeast.
It will be a week-long event, with two training sessions per day, special guests and tourist activities. In 2024, the camp was also scheduled for June, with a satisfactory turnout of Roney’s students, who were excited to participate in the trip.
“They really enjoyed the experience and the life they had in Brazil, they were able to see where I am from and how we train, without the perks of America. They have already talked about next year and about competing.”.

Sertão BJJ, which currently has its main academy in the United States, is based on the constant encouragement of exchanges between the United States and Brazil. The camp that brings students from the United States to Brazil for a training season is one example. As for Sertão students who are in Brazil, there is an initiative to provide them with more resources for experiences that were previously unfeasible, such as participating in international competitions.
This year, when the IBJJF Euros returns to Lisbon, Portugal, Roney Edler will be present with competitors who were selected for this opportunity. The black-belt monitors a Sertão database with the results of the athletes who stood out. Through this, he calls on the most productive ones to receive incentives.
