Competing in the elite of Jiu-Jitsu after the age of 40 can seem impossible. Unless you’re a “Cyborg”. At the peak of his 42 years, the multi-champion Roberto Abreu will be competing in a double dose at the Grand Slam Miami, to be held on September 16 and 17 in Miami. Cyborg will compete in the adult and master 1 categories in the up to 120kg division and will be going full force for double gold.

The Fight Sports black belt will be one of the top names in Jiu-Jitsu in action at AJP and is focused on delivering another great performance. In an interview with VF Comunica, Roberto Cyborg highlighted the level of his opponents and said that the goal is to settle the score.

“I’m very happy to be challenging myself once again. The brackets have not been released yet, but it’s going to be very tough. There are only strongmen in this category. All the athletes are tough, Roosevelt and I will be on different sides. The strategy is the same for everyone. Fight. I’m going to fight in the master and adult divisions and all the opponents are very tough in both categories. I just have to get in there and get the job done, that’s all,” commented Cyborg.

Roberto Cyborg is a distinguished competitor and lives the life of an athlete all year round. This behavior shows in competitions that his vitality remains enviable. The star believes that consistency and discipline are fundamental to this process.

“The secret is consistency in what you love to do. This doesn’t just work in Jiu-Jitsu, but in everything in life.  I’m very disciplined with my training and physical preparation. I love the lifestyle I lead, so I don’t see it as difficult or heavy, I’ve just made my routine, especially as I get older, very healthy and active. The results are there,” said the black belt.

Adrenaline is the fuel that drives Cyborg to take on challenges. The champion is focused on taking advantage of the opportunities offered by Jiu-Jitsu and wants to remain in high performance as long as possible.

“Motivation comes and goes. What remains is the will to live and to know one’s purpose. I never fought for titles, I did and do it for the pleasure of fighting and living my dream and my purpose in life. I feel blessed with everything that Jiu-Jitsu has given me and continues to give me. I’m not a planner, but one who lives intensely in the present. And as long as the present allows me, I’ll keep giving my best,” explained Cyborg.

A bombastic announcement shook the BJJ community with news coming straight from the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi. It was the announcement of the Abu Dhabi Extreme Championship (ADXC), a grappling event that has emerged with the ambitious aim of revolutionizing grappling competitions. The first edition is scheduled for October 20 and Roberto Cyborg’s name is among the most requested by fans of the sport.

The black belt listed the athletes he would like to face in a possible match at ADXC and revealed that news will be revealed soon.

“I’ve never fought Felipe Preguiça and I think this would be a good fight, he’s a super champion and it would be a good fight.  I’d also like a rematch with Meregali, because I got sick the day before our last fight and couldn’t perform as I should have. Or the absolute final of the World No-Gi, which never happened, against Ceconi, would also be good.  Although I have a lot of affection for him, I know he’s a monster and it would be a great fight. My manager Viktor Doria is negotiating everything and we’ll have news soon.  I love a challenge and I’m always looking for the best. The moment we stop challenging ourselves, we die”, Roberto Cyborg guaranteed.
