The PBJJF World Jiu-Jitsu Championship stopped the city of Baltimore, Maryland, last Sunday, November 12, with electrifying bouts. The event crowned the Federation’s first world champions and promoted quality Jiu-Jitsu. In addition, the black belt absolute champions secured the coveted belt.
The tournament brought together competitors from the kids, youth, adult and master categories. The PBJJF held the championship with the aim of promoting Jiu-Jitsu in the region and bringing an event with a first-rate structure to Baltimore.
In fact, the competition was attended by top MMA fighters such as Alexandr Romanov and Colton Smith. Young Jiu-Jitsu talents such as Thalys Pontes and Lucas Montalvão also put on a show at the PBJJF tournament.
Montalvão and UFC star dominate absolutes
By the way, Lucas Montalvão and Alexandr Romanov were the highlights of the first PBJJF World Championships. Lucas won the belt by reigning supreme in the gi and also took gold in the super-heavyweight. On the other hand, Romanov, ranked 13th in the UFC heavyweight rankings, was the absolute nogi champion, but also won the heavyweight master 1.
Among the women, Marcia Ramos was the big star, as she won two belts. She was dominant in the absolute with and without gi and marked her name in the history of the Federation.
Athletes show quality Jiu-Jitsu at PBJJF
In addition to the absolutes, the categories featured fierce fights for gold. Brazilian Thalys Pontes was supreme in the featherweight and reached the top step of the podium. At lightweight, Luiz Santos captured the gold medal after a flawless performance.
Bruno Labella, from the Barbosa Jiu-Jitsu team, showed the precision of his game and was champion at heavyweight.
The teams also fought interesting duels in the race for first place. However, no team was able to stop the momentum of the Enlisted Fight Company, which took first place with and without a gi.
