After delivering an excellent performance last season, number 1 in the IBJJF rankings, Luke Fidler, GB Chandler yellow-belt, begins 2024 fighting in an AZBJJL tournament, the Arizona International Open, held on February 10th. Champion of his division, the agile decision-making method in fights sets the tone for how Luke will perform for the rest of the season.
“It was my first local tournament and second of the year so I was still getting warmed up for the season. I had two matches and was able to get two quick finishes, both under one minute. So, I was very happy with the performance.”, he reveals to the VF Comunica team, giving further details of his strategy.
Training with the highest intensity makes Luke Fidler an elite athlete
With fights that demonstrate a more refined technical perception than that of his opponents, as shown by the numerous positive results, Luke Fidler gives credit for his achievements to intense training.
“I always feel that I prepare more and have more experience than my opponents. I’m not sure if that is true or not but it’s what I believe because I train every day for multiple hours. I felt my opponent wanted to take me down and play on top, so I pulled and attacked quickly to neutralize his game. It worked on both matches.”, he explains, proud of being able to anticipate his opponent’s intentions.
Brazilian Nationals, in São Paulo, will have the participation of the athlete
Still driven by the goal of being the best in the tournaments that compose the IBJJF Grand Slam, the current Pan and European Kids champion wants the same stability this year. “The most prestigious for me this year is Brazilian Nationals and repeat Pan Kids. I would also like to finish first again in the IBJJF points rankings.” says the pupil of Paulo Eduardo ‘Piu’.
Aware of the growth of grappling not only in the United States, but around the world, Fidler said he keeps No Gi training in his routine, at least once or twice a week. “I wrestled for 3 years to complement my Jiu Jitsu. I plan on competing more in No Gi in the future.”, he projects, with even bigger ambitions.
