The competitive achievements of Gabriel Silva, son of black-belt Vicente Júnior, show that the orange-belt has enough qualities to further advance his career in 2024. Owner of a Jiu-Jitsu with efficient submissions, Gabriel Silva is an athlete who uses all his experiences in tournaments, whether won or lost, to identify strengths and weaknesses with the aim of always improving.
In an interview with the VF Comunica team, Gabriel commented on the even more ambitious goals he intends to achieve in the new season. Of all the titles he has won, there is still the IBJJF Brazilian Nationals, traditionally held in São Paulo.
“In 2024, I plan to accomplish the same major titles as I did last year: Pans, Euros, World Pro and Jiu-Jitsu Con. I also want to accomplish the title I missed out on, the Brazilian Nationals title. This is what I feel that I missed last year that could’ve made a complete year. With that I also want to be ranked 1st in the world for this year just as I did last year.”, reveals the orange-belt, sharing his goals for the next months.
According to Gabriel Silva, passing game was the tactic that improved the most
Confident in a Jiu-Jitsu style that took him to the top of the main championships, Gabriel Silva already knows how to identify his differences and certain points that need adjustment. “Last year showed multiple flaws in different areas of my top game. Both tournaments that I lost last year were because of failures in a guard pass. It also helped be quicker in my movements, tighter in my movements, and have more pressure in positions. Each match helped me learn what I messed up and what I should continue. I feel that everything has improved but to choose one thing, I’d say my passing game.”, he analyzes, with an admirably mature mentality.
For someone who takes the sport so seriously, even as an orange-belt, it is natural that the dreams he intends to achieve as a black-belt are already present in his champion’s mind. If the effort remains constant, the achievement will be very real.
“My plans for my future in Jiu-Jitsu have me winning the major tournaments of IBJJF as a black-belt and other tournaments from other big federations, like the Abu Dhabi World Pro. I have wanted this since I was younger, so to get that when I grow up would be awesome. I bet my younger self would be proud of accomplishing those tournaments.”, he concludes, with arguments that make us believe with him.
