Driven by a succession of golden performances in Jiu-Jitsu, Gi and No Gi, with the European title being her most recent victory, Aurelie Le Vern now has a great reinforcement in the ADCC camp. The French athlete, with her confidence at a very high level, is enjoying a period of training at Melqui Galvão’s academy, absorbing knowledge from athletes such as Mica Galvão, excellent grappler and current champion of Who’s Number One and Diogo Reis, owner of the title that Aurelie most desires: currently ADCC champion.
“It’s been very positive, as I have the opportunity to train with Mica Galvão and Diogo Reis, who are two beasts in grappling, under the command of professor Melqui Galvão. I know that many wanted to be in my place, so I enjoy 100% of each training session.”, she states, recognizing the privilege of the opportunity.
Aurelie Le Vern posts a reel during training with Diogo Reis
On her IG, Aurelie posted a reel of highlights from training with Diogo Reis with the aim of getting a place in the ADCC world championship. In the video, Aurelie reinforced the importance of this partnership and stated that she is immersed “in the excellence of high-level Jiu-Jitsu”.
In an interview with the VF Comunica team, the IBJJF European champion said that “Diogo is one of the best athletes in our sport today. Training and receiving tips from an ADCC champion is very important to me. Furthermore, he is a very good human being, I am a fan!”.
With the gold medal won in Paris, in the first major Gi Jiu-Jitsu tournament of the season, Aurelie Le Vern achieved a historic feat: she is the third French athlete, both men and women, to win a title at the European Championship. For her, this fact is less important than arriving at a tournament and doing a good job, regardless of which title is at stake.
“This victory was very significant, mainly because it was in my country. Winning the European Championship in Paris, for me, was showing the world that the French can be at the top.”, says the Six Blades black-belt.
With the habit of studying her opponents in search of possible surprises, just as she did at the European Championships before winning gold, the athlete, who is also a black-belt in Luta Livre, says she is confident in her grappling fighting style and believes that the opponents’ game in the ADCC will not negatively impact her variety of techniques.
“The expectations are the same as the Euros. I had a good training camp and I’ve been improving with each training session. My game at No Gi is very complete and after having also studied my opponents, I didn’t notice anything that could surprise me. But of course, a fight is a fight.”, she concludes.
