A sport is made up of idols. And, to achieve this status, it’s not enough to just be champion, you need to impact a huge legion of fans. The main tool that allows this connection between athlete and public is the media, through press vehicles or social media. In both scenarios, the audiovisual content allows the character to take center stage.
Because of this, video producers are gaining more and more space in sport. In Jiu-Jitsu, which is one of the most popular fighting sports on the planet and continues to grow globally, broadcasts and documentaries have reached a level never seen before.
We can say that we are in the generation of true black belts in the creation and production of content in the world of gentle art.
One of these production companies is Triângulo Filmes, founded by Video Producer with more than 15 years of audiovisual experience and purple belt in Jiu-Jitsu, Ana Colagrande.
Among the works developed by the Brazilian producer are a documentary about the ADCC (largest grappling competition on the planet), in partnership with the American platform FloGrappling; She has also worked for the International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Association (IBJJF) and several gentle art stars.
“Jiu-Jitsu is still very niche. Everything is still very small and everything happens in ‘baby steps’. Thinking about the expansion of the sport, and of course, attracting new brands, resources and investments, I strongly believe that through quality and well-produced content (in terms of aesthetics and storytelling) this can be possible”, explains Ana Colagrande about the importance of the audiovisual in the sport.
“I believe that the media has great power in expanding the sport and that is what motivates me most about working with Jiu-Jitsu. Being able to deliver high-quality content, aligned with what I believe the community deserves, is what moves me. Besides, I believe that athletes are the biggest stars of any sport and need to be rewarded for all the physical, psychological and financial effort they put in”, she adds.
Working with stars
Some of the names she has worked with directly are multi-time world champions André Galvão, Bruno Malfacine, Kaynan Duarte, Lucas Lepri, Nicholas Meregali, Rômulo Barral and Leandro Lo. In addition to major championships and stars, Triângulo also produced for giant teams, such as Alliance and Atos, and for the main brands on the market.
And her work isn’t just limited to Jiu-Jitsu. Her video production company also focuses on wrestling, working with United World Wrestling, the world wrestling federation, in Pan-American championships and Olympic trials.
Outside of fighting, Ana Colagrande contributed to advertising productions for large multinationals, with campaigns for Adidas, Nike and Samsung; events such as Rock In Rio – in partnership with Banco Itaú; and institutions such as São Paulo City Hall, FIFA, Google, Youtube, Adobe, Twitter and the aforementioned ADCC and IBJJF.
“At Triângulo, each new project is a challenge, in which we know that customers expect the best and that we are always looking to innovate and improve with each new project. So, exceeding this great expectation is very motivating. Personally, I really like to surprise my clients, promising less and delivering more. This certainly extends to Triângulo”, she highlights.
