Guilherme Augusto is considered one of the best names of his generation and has a successful career in Jiu-Jitsu. At the age of 31, Guilherme has won two Brazilian titles and a Pan-American black belt title. He has defeated opponents of the caliber of Rafael Lovato, Adam Wardzinski, Gutemberg Pereira and a host of other stars.
Currently, Guilherme is the teacher in charge of Alliance Arkansas, but he has also made a name for himself since returning to the ring for championships. Guilherme came third in the heavyweight division at the 2023 World Championships and, months earlier, left the Pan with two bronze medals. He also won double gold at the Oklahoma and Dallas Opens, both with the IBJJF label.
In an interview with VF Comunica, Guilherme Augusto reinforces the evolution of his guard this year and guarantees that he has become a more well-rounded athlete.
“I’ve made remarkable progress with my guard this year and this has made me evolve as a fighter in general. In addition, my game is more complete,” says Guilherme.
The Alliance black belt maintains that the level of his class is getting higher and that the very heavyweights are also getting more skillful and faster. In addition, he reveals that his complete Jiu-Jitsu sets him apart from other competitors.
“Nowadays, heavyweight isn’t just about heavyweight athletes. The division includes agile and strong athletes. My differential lies in being fast, strong and complete. I feel comfortable both doing and passing guard. I can do both with the same quality,” says Guilherme.
Guilherme has already decided when he will be in action again at the championships. He will compete in the Pan No Kimono, to be held between September 29 and October 1. He is now focused on racking up victories in the nogi.
“My next competition will be the No-Gi Pan. I’m still going to fight no-gi this year, but my focus will be on no-gi in the second semester. I don’t have any opponents in mind yet, because my goal is to win more and more and gain confidence and expressiveness. I want to beat whoever stands in my way, no matter the opponent,” Guilherme Augusto concluded.
