Who is Marcos Norat

Marcos Norat reached the top of the roosterweight division at the 2002 Worlds, representing Gracie Humaitá. Along the way he submitted Felipe Costa with an armbar, beat João Márcio Pontes 2-0 and, in the final, used the armbar again against Carlson Gracie’s Marcos Oliveira.

Born in Belém, in the state of Pará, in 1972, he received his black belt from Royler Gracie, one of the greatest names in the history of the lighter divisions. In 2004 he returned to the Worlds podium with bronze, in a bracket won by Gabriel Moraes.

Away from competition he founded Norfight, an academy affiliated with Gracie Humaitá. He now teaches for Gracie Humaitá in Redlands, California, and still competes in the masters divisions.
